Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Conor McGregor (cue my Irish voice) are finally going to fight.
Mayweather and McGregor will fight August 26th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In the fight, the southpaw UFC fighter McGregor won’t be able to use MMA moves. It will be a boxing fight. Many are already suggesting Mayweather, who is 49-0, will take care of McGregor. But if you know McGregor, he won’t go down without a puncher’s chance.
Mayweather is a very good boxer that is excellent on defense.
The hype for this fight will be huge leading up to August 26. Heck, the hype that has already occurred for several years leading up to Wednesday’s fight announcement has been ridiculous. It’s only going to get bigger, too.
If McGregor is able to give Mayweather his first loss, I would suggest that there would likely be a rematch because Mayweather won’t want to have a loss to McGregor be one of his last fights. Nonetheless, he wouldn’t happy if a UFC fighter came into a boxing ring and beat him using boxing rules.
I think too if McGregor is able to win, it might signal the end of boxing because as you know UFC is already really popular and on heels of boxing. Boxing hasn’t had many “big fights” that have excited people over the years. Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather were the last big boxing match. It lasted 12 rounds, but didn’t end the way some would have wanted.
That leads to my next question. Many walked away from Pacquiao and Mayweather were bummed they spent money on that fight because they didn’t get the result they wanted. I think McGregor and Mayweather will be different. It has UFC fans interested to see if McGregor really can knock off Mayweather.
This fight is going to make a lot of money.
August 26 can’t come soon enough.
